The Role

Macquarie University Health (MUH) is seeking Junior/Resident Medical Officers to join our Doctors in Training Program to provide clinical services and participate in the teaching and research environment of MUH. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to:

• Be mentored and work alongside experienced clinicians in a diverse spectrum of Medical and Surgical specialities
  
• Collaborate with groups across MUH to participate in research projects
  
• Be exposed to a wide range of clinical conditions and treatment for these, including advanced procedural interventions
  
• Supervise and train students and other Doctors in Training
  
• Contribute to educational activities with MUH.

Rotation opportunities exist across the following terms with specialist knowledge and offerings at Macquarie University Health.

General Medicine areas including:

• Respiratory/Gastroenterology/Endocrinology; Cardiology;
  
• Medical Oncology/Haematology;
  
• General Surgery/Plastics;
  
• Urology/Gynaecology;
  
• ENT/Ophthalmology/Cardiothoracic Surgery/Vascular Surgery;
  
• Neurosurgery;
  
• Orthopaedics; Relief; Emergency Medicine (Coff’s Harbour Secondment).

Key Accountabilities include (Not limited to):

Clinical

As a key member of our clinical team, you’ll play an essential role in delivering patient-centred care at Macquarie University Hospital and Clinics. You'll gain hands-on experience conducting assessments, formulating management plans, ordering investigations, and coordinating care—all under expert supervision. This role offers the opportunity to work closely with multidisciplinary teams and refine your clinical decision-making skills.

Administrative

You’ll actively participate in key clinical meetings, contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, and ensure clear communication around leave and incident reporting. This role supports your growth while emphasizing accountability and teamwork.

Quality and Research Activities

Join a team that values continuous improvement and excellence in patient care. You'll take part in clinical quality activities, including audits, peer reviews, and risk management initiatives, while contributing to hospital accreditation and safety standards.

Supervision, Training and Education

Take an active role in shaping the future of healthcare at Macquarie University Health through education and mentorship. You’ll participate in multidisciplinary training, attend and present at grand rounds, and provide advice and mentorship to individual students. To be considered for this position, you will demonstrate the below requirements in your CV [which should include 2 clinical referees] and a 1-2 page cover letter:

• Provisional or General Registration with AHPRA or ability to obtain limited registration (please provide AHPRA certificate or AMC certificate)
  
• Demonstrated understanding of the patient’s perspective and ability to communicate key information to the patient and carers
  
• Demonstrated interest and aptitude for one or more of the following activities: supervision of students; or delivery of educational activities; or research.
  
• A strong commitment to multidisciplinary approaches to clinical care and ability to work as part of a team
  
• Demonstrated experience as a PGY1 doctor in basic procedural techniques such as intravenous cannulation and venesection (PGY2+)
  
• Completion of ALS2 desirable for PGY2+

• ** You MUST have an active (or eligible to be active) AHPRA General or Provisional Medical Registration. This is essential in order to be considered for this role and an Accredited Practitioner of Macquarie University Hospital. Please upload AHPRA Certificate when applying**
